Carol Competition, Ahmedabad Diocese December 2010

Carol competition of the Ahmedabad Diocese for this Christmas was held in Nadiad, at  St.Mary's on 26th December, 2010.
Maninagar choir won the first prize of Rs.5000/-
It was organized by the ICYM, Gurjarvani and SOCOM.

Fr Francis Mendonca sj Passed away

Fr Francis Mendonca worked in St Xavier's College, Ahedabad, Gujarat, India, for many years teaching the subject World Religions.


 Then he was appointed director of Jeevan Darshan Pastoral Centre,Vadodara. Later he was appointed as the Parish Priest of Anand . He was in Gandhinagar St Xavier's school for a few years, and the last appointment was to Vaghodia Parish near Vododara.
The three in the photo above have all  gone to the Father's House in heaven.

Fr Francis Mendonca sj passed away in Vadodara at 9.45 pm on 28th December 2010.
Funeral will be at Rosary Church Vadodara on 29th at 11.00 am.
He was born on 1st Dec 1931 and ordained priest 24th March 1966

Christaayan - an everlasting love story of God.

 Ishavasyam - Divine Indwelling - is the music album of the movie in Hindi Christaayan - an everlasting love story of God, by Satprakashan Sanchar Kendra Indore, MP, India. The songs are sung by the best singers from the film industry. All of them rendered their service free of charge.
The shooting took 14 months and editing may take three months from now. Fr Geo George SVD has spend more than two years dreaming and planning this movie. This movie is a Indian Cultural interpretation of the life and message of Jesus.

Fr Joe Braganza passes away.


Fr Joe Braganza S.J. passed away on 11th Dec 2010 Saturday at 6.30 pm at Vadodara.
The funeral will be on 13th Dec at 4 pm at St Xavier's Church Navrangpura, Ahmedabad,

Fr Joe is known mainly for the "Gulbai Tekra Project" to educate the children from Gulbai Tekra area, which is near St Xavier's college, Ahmedabad. He ran this evening school  for all the years he was here in the college. His whole life was spent in the college, teaching, and as wise principal for some years.

Photography workshop for the 8,9 and 11th std students of Mount Carmel school Ahmedabad was conducted by Gurjarvani on 10th Dec 2010. The students will now take photos of Ahmedabad from their own point of view and present them for competitions organized for Ahmedabad 600 years celebrations.

Photo workshop for children

   St Xavier's Social Service Society organized a photography workshop for the children from the areas they are working for the development of the communities there on 8th Dec from 10.15 am to 5.30 pm.
Sanjay Ronza and team directed the children to take photos with technical precision and meaningful topics.
Ashok Vaghela sj coordinated the whole workshop. 48 children participated in the workshop. On the 9th these children will take photos of Ahmedabad city as they see it. Selected photos will be sent for a competition celebrating the 600th year of the founding of Ahmedabad City. For more photos taken by the children see Gurjarvani  Picasa photo stream below

 " Mother Express"
A Train containing a superb exhibition with rare photos of Mother Teresa was here in Ahmedabad on 3rd Dec 2010.
Mother Teresa's sisters sang a song on the Mother and the Photo of the Mother was garlanded by Mr Ashok Garud, Ahmedabad Divisional Railway manager. Vikram Sarabhai International Arts Festival



InterArt, the Vikram Sarabhai International Arts Festival, is an annual arts festival at the Natarani amphitheatre, part of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. Each year, InterArt  brings the best of innovative, cutting-edge performance art from India and all over the world and showcases it during the three day festival held at the end of December.
This year, the 35th InterArt festival proudly presents: 600 Not Out - a  fresh look at the people, places, and legends of Ahmedabad - a city with many stories to tell. This year’s theme was chosen to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the city of Ahmedabad, but is not simply a memorial to the past... this year's events, which include live painting sessions and poetry readings, performances at Natarani, short film and photography competitions, and more will give its audience a chance to re-imagine history and experience the 600 years of this city in their full vibrancy, comedy, mystery, and color.
This year's festival events take place through the month of December culminating on the 28th, 29th and 30th of the month.

From Death to Immortality

 A new audio project is being recorded at Gurjarvani audio studio, Ahmedabad, India,  from 28th Oct 2010.

This will be a devotional CD with songs and commentary which can be used for " Besnu" a prayer meeting which is kept in memory of  the departed person by the relatives. The main message of the production will be of hope of eternal life after death. A departed person is still part of a family, in a state of supreme bliss, being with the Father in heaven who is love, joy, and peace . Devasia

Theater workshop at Gurjarvani

A five day workshop of Dramatics was inaugurated on 27th Oct 2010 at Gurjarvani. The Trainer / resource person is Sri Sanjay Ganguli from Kolkatta. The theater workshop is for the trainees of Samvedan Cultural Group  for development of the oppressed and the Dalit groups in Gujarat.
